Llamado "el Deseado" fue rey de Castilla desde el 21 de agosto de 1157 hasta su muerte.</p><p> </p><p>Hijo primogénito de Alfonso VII y Berenguela de Barcelona, el 21 de agosto de 1157 a la muerte de su padre, heredó el Reino de Castilla mientras que su hermano, Fernando II, recibió el reino de León. La división del reino entre los dos hijos de Alfonso VII no derivó en conflicto entre los hermanos debido a la intervención de su hermanastra Sancha que intermedió para que ambos respetaran los límites territorialesde cada reino.</p><p> </p><p>El 30 de enero de 1151 contrajo matrimonio en Laguardia con Blanca Garcés de Navarra, hija del rey navarro García Ramírez I y de Margarita de Aguila. De este matrimonio nacería, en 1155, el futuro Alfonso VIII en cuyo parto fallecería Blanca.</p><p> </p><p>En 1158 contribuyó a la creación de la Orden de Calatrava cuando los templarios rehusaron mantenerla defensa de la ciudad fronteriza de Calatrava que les había sido concedida por Alfonso VI en 1147. Sancho entregó entonces la tenencia y el señorío de Calatrava al abad Raimundo de Fitero y al caballero Diego Velázquez, que fundarían la citada Orden militar.</p><p> </p><p>Siguiendo la política de su padre logró que, en 1157, el rey navarro Sancho VI, y en 1158, el conde de BarcelonaRamón Berenguer IV le prestaran vasallaje. Ese mismo año entró en el reino leonés de su hermano Fernando II pero no llegó a enfrentarse a él, ya que ambos monarcas el 23 de mayo de 1158 llegaron a un acuerdo firmado el tratado de Sahagún, por el cual Sancho se comprometía a devolver las tierras fronterizas entre ambas reinos que había conquistado a cambio de que estas fueran dadas en señoríos a nobles leoneses cercanos al rey castellano. También acordaron prestarse ayuda mutua frente a terceros, se repartieron las zonas de conquista sobre los territorios musulmanes y establecieronque si alguno de ellos fallecía sin descendencia el reino del finado pasaría al superviviente.</p><p> </p><p>La súbita muerte de Sancho dejó el tratado firmado con su hermano sin fuerza alguna. Luchó contra los reyes de León, de Navarra y de Aragón y murió cuando se aprestaba a invadir navarra con ayuda de Ramón Berenguer IV, de Cataluña.

<p>Sancho III de Castela o Desejado (1134 - Toledo, 31 de Agosto de 1158) foi rei de Castela e Toledo desde 21 de Agosto de 1157 até à sua morte, pouco mais de um ano volvido. Era o filho mais velho de Afonso VII de Leão e Castela e de Berengária de Barcelona, tendo recebido o reino de Castela por morte do pai, que dividira a sua herança também com o seu irmão mais novo Fernando (o qual receberia o reino de Leão).</p><p>Conseguiu com que Raimundo Berengário IV, conde de Barcelona e rei consorte de Aragão se reconhecesse seu vassalo e ratificasse a devolução de Zaragoza e demais praças ocupadas em terras aragonesas.</p><p>Protegeu o reino da invasão de Sancho VI de Navarra e instituiu a Ordem de Calatrava, confiando a defesa desse castelo ao abade Dom Maurício, fundador da Ordem.</p><p>Assinou com o irmão Fernando II de Leão o Tratado de Sahagún, prevendo a repartição das conquistas aos mouros para Sul, bem como uma eventual repartição do território português.</p>Deixou como herdeiro o único filho gerado da sua esposa Branca de Navarra, Afonso VIII. Pouco depois da sua morte, nasceu uma luta pelo poder em Castela entre as famílias Lara e Castro. Contudo, ojovem sucessor conseguiu impor-se às famílias rivais.

<p>Sancho III of Castile</p><p>From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.</p><p> </p><p>Sancho III of Castile (1134 – August 30, 1158), called el Deseado (The Desired), was King of Castile for one year, from 1157 to 1158.</p><p> </p><p>He was the eldest son of King Alfonso VII of Castile and Berenguela of Barcelona. His father's will partitioned the kingdom between his two sons: Sancho inherited Castile, and Fernando inherited Leon. The two brothers had just signed a treaty before Sancho's sudden death in the summer of 1158. Sancho III Encyclopædia Britannica Article born c. 1134 died Aug. 31, 1158, Toledo, Castile byname Sancho The Desired, Spanish Sancho El Deseado king of Castile from 1157 to 1158, the elder son of the Spanish emperor Alfonso VII. His father's will partitioned the realm between his two sons, Sancho III receiving Castile and Ferdinand II receiving Leon. After a military show of force, Sancho was able to reaffirm by treaty the vassalage of Aragon and Navarre won by his imperial father, but, after reigning but one year and 11 days, he died.
